Is AI regulation finally here?

Not really.

With the recent news that Meta, Google, and OpenAI promise the White House they’ll develop AI responsibly, it appears that we’re finally making progress towards AI regulation.

But these are just promises, not legislation, so there are no consequences for ignoring them.

This represents what all this talk of regulation has been from the beginning — signaling — and not much else.

There have been “studies” showing that the quality of GPT-4’s responses are going down.

But this misses a critical point: GPT-4 matches the quality of the output with the quality of the prompt. While this currently a limitation, it speaks to the importance of writing highly detailed prompts in order to get high quality responses.
